Hunyango is a Filipino word that either means a chameleon or someone is fickle or who quickly changes side or views.
I use hunyango as a metaphor of someone’s capacity to shift form, to change certain parts of themselves in order to fit an environment. As someone who was raised with an unconscious need to shift roles within my family (I am almost a sister to Mama, and a mother to my brother and sister), my being a hunyango almost comes as a gift. Until it is not.
